Dear Reader,

A top U.S. military official, Admiral Alvin Holsey, may have resigned over illegal bombing orders from Donald Trump.

While a wall of silence surrounds Holsey’s reasons, Trump’s strikes on boats in the Caribbean Sea have only gotten more brazen and lawless since he quit. The administration has now killed 60 people, following last week’s bombings of four more boats in the region.

There have been no charges, no trials, no oversight, and no explanation for these strikes, just as there have been no reasons given as to why Holsey quit.

The ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, Representative Adam Smith, says Holsey may have left rather than carry out Trump’s orders—which should set off screaming alarm bells on Capitol Hill.

Instead, Republicans blocked an effort to get Holsey’s testimony, leaving us all in the dark.

The New Republic is one of the few remaining outlets digging into this, with reporters like Greg Sargent tracking the story for weeks. Our team is exposing the rot inside the Pentagon, the GOP’s disgraceful abdication of oversight, and Trump’s deranged power grabs—bomb by bomb.

But we can’t do this without you.

Yes, I'll help!

This is how Trump consolidates power—unchecked, unchallenged, and under the cover of silence. If we want a future where the people can still hold the powerful accountable, we have to fight for it.

For U.S.-based donors giving $100 or more, we’ll send you our exclusive TNR tote bag as thanks. But what really matters is this: You’ll be standing up for democracy, the rule of law, and a free press.

Thank you for standing with us.

Remember the Southern Command admiral who resigned two weeks ago? Hill Republicans haven’t heard from him—and they don’t apparently want to.
